PilatesRx is San Diego’s premier, full service Pilates and body conditioning studio.
As a fully-equipped studio, we specialize in post-rehabilitative programs, strength and flexibility conditioning, sport-specific training, and both pre- and post-natal Pilates.
Our specialized sessions and classes combine contemporary mat and equipment based Pilates exercises with rehabilitative and corrective movement patterns. Our certified trainers offer expert instruction to guide you through low-impact movements designed to increase body awareness and improve postural alignment.
PilatesRx general and sport-specific body conditioning programs are beneficial for pain management and injury prevention. Pilates and functional movement training will help clients discover their spine, core, and pelvic floor. These programs are suggested for athletes of all competitive levels including, but not limited to, football players, baseball players, soccer players, lacrosse players, golfers, swimmers, runners, cyclists, equestrian riders, dancers, gymnasts, skaters, and climbers. People of all walks of life and ages can experience an increase in mobility, stability, and power for enhanced quality of movement and life.
PilatesRx connects with your obstetrician for the management of pre- and post-natal Pilates programs. Specialized programs keep mother and baby safe during the vital stages of pregnancy, labor, and post-natal recovery. Pregnancy often presents challenges such as low back discomfort, sciatica, sleep disturbances, and nausea. Pilates increases pelvic floor strength, builds hip stability, heightens core awareness, enhances breathing flow, and reduces stress. PilatesRx mothers experience easier pregnancies, faster deliveries, and even speedier recoveries.
PilatesRx post-rehabilitative programs are ideal for those seeking additional care, after completing medically advised physical therapy, for the management of their injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, and/or diseases. Recovery can be greatly enhanced with a proper rehabilitative program that addresses special needs or concerns. Those suffering from musculoskeletal or neurological disorders can experience an increase in body awareness, balance, and overall stability.
Our post-rehabilitative programs are complemented by our in-house physical therapist Nathan Briner, Owner of True Balance Sports Therapy Clinic. He is available for services on Thursdays. Payments are made directly to Nathan Briner via cash or check.

As Owner and Director of PilatesRx, Mahlia Christinson, holds a comprehensive Body Arts and Science International Pilates Certification founded by Rael Isacowitz, BodyCode certification through Pino Carbone and Viktor Uygan, Core Align certification through Balanced Body University, and specializations in post-rehabilitative therapies (including musculoskeletal disorders and diseases) pre- and post-natal Pilates, sport and dance specific training, and functional movement programs.
Mahlia grew up in San Diego, where she was introduced to Pilates at an early age after sustaining sports-related injuries to her knee, shoulders, and neck. She continued to feel the first-hand benefits of Pilates while studying Criminology, Law, and Society, and Social Ecology at University of California Irvine. Mahlia believes in the combination of mindful breathing and corrective movements to improve both physical and mental health.
When not in the studio, Mahlia loves spending time with her family: Steve, (PilatesRx legal business manager), Roark (the studio basset hound), and Moopies and Baxter (the rabbits). You can probably spot her and her family at local eateries and neighborhood parks.
Christi Wilson is a STOTT certified Pilates instructor with continuing education in the MELT Method, TRX System, and BASI education focusing on functional movement with an emphasis on osteo-based Pilates. While her approach to pilates is athletic-based, her philosophy is mindful movement with awareness of building strength and mobile integrity from the inside, out. After the birth of her two children, Christi became a commited student of pilates to maintain health, strength, and movement to keep up with her family's (now soon to be teenagers) active lifestyle. As a graduate from San Diego State University, she fell in love with San Diego and never left. When she is not at the studio, you can find her running around Mission Bay, surfing with her family, mountain biking, and taking full advantage of the Southern California lifestyle.
Kristi attended the University of Calgary and taught at Rancho La Puerta in Baja, Mexico for 10 years before opening a Pilates studio in Victoria, Canada. She is certified through all levels of STOTT Pilates, with ACSM & NASM, and continues education in Posture Therapy & Exercise Science. She designed the exercise program for the New York Times bestselling book Revive by Dr. Frank Lipman and is the star & creator of a DVD on the foam roller called Roll, Release & Rebuild.
Nathan Briner, Owner of the TrueBalance Sports Therapy Clinic, had spent the past 20 years utilizing neuroscience and pain education, combined with manual and movement therapies, for the treatment of chronic pain, muscle, and joint issues.
His overarching goal is the transformation of the outdated, misinformed culture surrounding pain toward personal empowerment and exquisite appreciation of our physical bodies. He spends half his week as the fitness manager at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico weaving therapeutic concepts into his yoga, Pilates, and posture therapy classes. Nathan also lectures and conducts workshops on posture therapy and pain neutralization techniques.
